India's performance at the Cricket World Cup 2019

Getting straight to it, even with all the flaws this is the best and most efficient Indian ODI side I’ve seen in my lifetime. Regardless of the result yesterday, these bunch of cricketers play an aggressive brand of cricket which is great to watch and also produces consistent results. Knockout tournaments like WC are always tricky, 30 minutes of poor cricket can lead to elimination but that should not be the basis to judge a team like India which has been the best side when it comes to performing consistently with players shining in each aspect of the game.
Hindsight experts will blame the captaincy, the coach, Dhoni etc but the only thing in our hands for a tournament like the World Cup is to prepare in the most efficient manner possible and this Indian side did most things right in it’s preparation for the WC. It started as early as two years to get the team right and worked towards the World Cup without bothering much about the present results. Virat Kohli and co. created a good dressing room atmosphere where even with so much competition each player wanted others to do well. Some might argue we should have given a few players more consistent chances for the middle order, but some players were just not sealing the spots and with so much talent available we had to give others a chance. The players along with the support staff made sure that they reached the World Cup hitting their peak form and fitness. The things which are under our control we prepared in the best way possible , unfortunately rain and injuries to key players is something you can’t prepare much in advance.
Winning the World Cup would have been a worthy feather in the cap for this Indian side but sadly it was not meant to be. It will take some days to digest this but what must give us comfort is that we gave it everything we had, we i.e. the team , support staff , fans, EVERYONE. From flooding the stands with blue jerseys to refreshing Cricbuzz to get updates on when the next pitch inspection will be.
This Indian side will not have a World Cup to show for it’s talents but the memories will last forever and that is something that nobody can take away from the fans. As Robert Green said “ The greatest test of courage on earth is to bear defeat without losing heart.”. It will hurt to swallow this pain but be ready to support this champion side when they step on the field again to finish what for now has been left unfinished.
P:S – Dhoni , We love you 3000
