Kai Havertz – A Footballing Genius
Kai Havertz – A Footballing Genius
The 20 year old German wonder kid came to limelight when he
became the youngest debutant for Bayer Leverkusen in 2016. Getting a consistent
role in the side he also became the youngest player to play 50 Bundesliga
Games.
The 2018/19 season under Peter Bosz was a breakthrough
season for the youngster as he managed to convert his ability into numbers by
getting 20 goals and 7 assists in 42 games. Havertz along with Julian Brandt
became a deadly duo under Bosz which fired Leverkusen into a Champions League
Spot.
Kai Havertz has a lot of qualities to describe but the one
which stands out the most is his Footballing IQ, the ability to make split
second decisions with regards to his positioning, movement and passing and as a
result he is often used as an outlet to start counter attacks. He is also a
very versatile midfielder who can easily slot into different positions in the
midfield.
There are very few things that the youngster can’t do on a
footballing pitch, from finding defense-splitting passes to finishing them on
the other side, he excels at both. His ability to find spaces behind the
defense to make intelligent vertical runs combined with his excellent finishing
allowed him to contribute significantly in the scoring. He uses both delicate
one touch passes to combine with his teammates and long balls to switch sides
effectively. Though his first touch is at times
questionable but his dribbling technique is quite effective for a tall player.
Kai Havertz has shown the talent to create chances as an
attacking midfielder and also his ability to read the game and play like a deep
lying playmaker. Which position he finally settles in, only time will tell, but
one thing is for sure that Bayer Leverkusen have a great player in their hands
and very soon the big clubs in Europe will be after them to get him
